The Diary of Events should be regularly updated by the school's finance staff to indicate the work that they have successfully completed. They should raise any concerns regarding this work with their line manager promptly (normally the Headteacher).

The headteacher should have a basic understanding of the tasks set out in the Diary of Events; they should regularly review and sign the Diary of Events.

In addition to this the headteacher (or their nominated representative) should, as a minimum:

  • review and sign/date the bank reconciliations (for both the Budget account and the School Fund account/s)
  • arrange for ad-hoc reconciliations of petty cash (including School Fund if appropriate) and sign/date the records as evidence
  • Reimbursements/payments being made to school signatories to ensure that they have not signed for or paid out to themselves.
