Many schools will by now have received an invitation from the Government to sign up as a Tax-Free Childcare provider. This will allow for the Government to supplement the price paid by parents for the cost of eligible childcare.
The online application requires several pieces of information amongst which are two tax references, a VAT Registration Number and the Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR).
Where maintained schools operate as agents of the county council in the provision of relevant childcare they will need to provide the councils details for these.
Suffolk County Council’s VAT Registration number is: 104 1787 91
Unfortunately, the council does not have a Unique Taxpayer Reference (UTR) for either Corporation Tax or Income Tax as it is exempt from both of these taxes.
We understand that providers have been successful in registering using councils' Construction Industry Scheme references and so the following may be used where a Corporation/Income Tax reference is requested:
