Th election/appointment/reappointment process for governors varies depending on their category and also the type of school.

For maintained schools anytime a parent or staff governors term of office comes to an end the position must be advertised to all parents/staff members and nominations sought and a vote held if more nominations are received than there are vacancies.

For co-opted governor positions the whole governing board vote on who to appoint or reappoint.

For foundation governors the diocese will appoint an individual.

Local authority governors are nominated by the local authority but appointed by the governing body.

For academy schools the process for election and reappointment of governors should be detailed in the articles of association.
