Originally many converter schools were created as standalone academies and the DfE do lay out some very limited circumstances under which schools may continue to be eligible to convert as a single academy, but this is now extremely rare.
It is far more normal for converters to either join an existing MAT or form one on conversion with another converter or existing standalone academy.
